Career & Guidance

In an emerging global era, high technology and new information systems promote a new economy, bringing a revolution in education, the labor market, and lifestyles throughout the world. India is now going through a total transformation, with remarkable achievement not only in its economic development but in all aspects of society. The new market economy has created a new critical condition for career development of the masses as well as openings for career professionals.

Our counselors provide our students with career and educational counseling. School counselors assist students of all levels, from elementary school to post secondary education. They advocate for students and work with other individuals and organizations to promote the academic, career, personal, and social development of children and youth. Our counselors help students evaluate their abilities, interests, talents, and personalities to develop realistic academic and career goals. They use interviews, counseling sessions, interest and aptitude assessment tests, and other methods to evaluate and advise students.

Our counselors at all levels help students to understand and deal with social, behavioral, and personal problems. The counselors emphasize preventive and developmental counseling to provide students with the life skills needed to deal with problems before they worsen and to enhance students’ personal, social, and academic growth. They interact with students individually, in small groups, or as an entire class. They consult and collaborate with parents, teachers, school administrators, school psychologists, medical professionals, and social workers to develop and implement strategies to help students succeed.

The mission of DYPIS-Nagpur is to produce compassionate global citizens who are ready for the future. In fact, the entire curriculum and ethos of the school is to prepare students for life after school. Therefore we continue to develop a comprehensive career and guidance program. Our teachers and administrators are familiar with the admissions process for both Indian universities, as well as, international universities. We divide the Career and Guidance Program into two phases. We start with Classes 9 and 10 to get the students to start thinking about their future. While in Classes 11 and 12 we start the process of choosing a university and applying for admission.

Classes 9 and 10

In classes 9 and 10 we work with the individual student to identify academic areas of interest and in introducing students to the multitude of career options. As the world’s economies become more interdependent the choices a student will have for a career are much greater today, and promises to be even more varied in the future. We, therefore, strive to give students a solid understanding of career options and the tools needed become successful.

Classes 11 and 12

In classes 11 and 12 we start to work individually with students regarding the selection of universities. We use a number of internet and multi-media tools to help the student identify and narrow their choices for higher study. We then guide them through the admissions process, and explore the options for scholarships and/or financial assistance.

We have specialists who understand and can guide students through the vastly different application processes for Indian and foreign universities. For students who opt to apply to foreign universities we start to put together the application in Class 11, itself. For those students who choose to study in India, we start advising students regarding the competitive examinations in Class 12.

As the number of students who have passed out of DYPIS-Nagpur grows, we have plans to use this valuable resources of past students to help advise our current students in their career and study choices.
